As a teenager, I was pleased to read a book by John Wooden entitled "They Call Me Coach". In case you are not familiar with him he is the most successful men’s basketball coach in the history of the NCAA. I would suggest that you take a minute to look him up as his is a fascinating story.
His book contained a graphical model that he created to outline his theories on what it took to be successful as a basketball player and perhaps more importantly, in the game of life. I have included a copy below:
Obviously, the attributes he espoused and the model he used to get his message across resonated with me and I always kept it in the back of my mind throughout my business career. It wasn’t until many years later that I had the “epiphany” to modify what he started and specifically apply it to the business world.
