Work-Life Balance
We are all probably aware that many successful long term businesses have been built by people who do not have any type of “work-life balance”, and it is for this reason that you will not see it as an actual block in The Pyramid of Business Success.
You will note, however, that it actually surrounds my model and I have created an entire chapter pertaining to the topic toward the end of the book. I believe that this concept will become increasingly important over the next 5-10 years, especially given the influence that members of “Generation-Y” will continue to play. I therefore felt compelled to include some thoughts on the matter that you may want to consider as you develop your business and leadership skills.
I would like to point out that as with any pyramid, mine has been constructed from the ground up, with the most important items contained in its base. Without a strong base any pyramid will simply collapse, and the same can be said for The Pyramid of Business Success.
I credit my success to a lot of hard work and being able to surround myself with people who want to be great. Every one of my key managers who helped contribute to my success (and the success of these businesses) have all been honest, enthusiastic and demonstrated a tremendous amount of integrity on a day to day basis.
Coupling my many years of successful business experience with the “Midwestern work ethic” provided me with the impetus to create this book. I hope that my effort to “pay it forward” will play a positive role in developing a new set of leaders that will operate with integrity, personal accountability, and resilience; and that it will help them build successful, long term businesses.
I wish you the best of luck!
